Best results with high-contrast edges (architecture, text, etc.)

About Chromatic Aberration

  • Lateral CA: Color fringing at edges, worse toward corners - correctable in post
  • Longitudinal CA: Color fringing in front/behind focus plane - harder to correct
  • Red/Cyan: Indicates lateral CA, common in wide-angle lenses
  • Blue/Yellow: Indicates longitudinal CA, common at wide apertures

Prevention Tips

  • Use higher quality lenses with APO or ED glass elements
  • Stop down aperture (f/5.6 - f/8 typically reduces CA)
  • Avoid shooting high-contrast scenes at extreme edges
  • Enable automatic lens corrections in your RAW processor
