Tips for Using the Sunny 16 Rule
- Equivalent exposures: Opening aperture by 1 stop requires doubling shutter speed
- Snow/beach: Add 1 stop for bright reflective surfaces
- Backlighting: Open 2-3 stops for subjects in shadow against bright background
- Practice: Compare your estimates to your camera's meter to calibrate your eye
- Film photography: Essential when shooting with manual cameras without meters
