Reading the Histogram
- Left side (0): Shadows/blacks
- Middle (128): Midtones
- Right side (255): Highlights/whites
- Peaks touching edges: Potential clipping (lost detail)
- Gaps on edges: Flat image, room to expand contrast
- Log scale: Better reveals shadow/highlight detail in high DR images
About Histograms
A histogram shows the distribution of tonal values in your image. It helps you understand exposure, contrast, and identify clipping.
- Well-exposed images typically have data spread across the graph
- Underexposed images bunch up on the left
- Overexposed images bunch up on the right
- Low contrast images have a narrow histogram
- Use Compare Mode to analyze before/after edits
